Shortfall in itself is not grounds for complaint. Complaints about returns (or lack of) do not need to be answered.

    I don't agree.

It will be. Endowment mortgages were typically cheaper than repayment mortgages. It was one of the most common reasons people took the endowment mortgage despite the investment risk.

    This is not the case.

Poor investment performance is not grounds for complaint.

Being told the investment performance is guaranteed is.

For my sins, I sold a large number of low cost with profits endowment mortgages in the late eighties and early nineties. They were nearly always cheaper when compared to a repayment mortgage with decreasing term assurance.

The low cost endowment route tended to be more expensive when the term was short or the borrower was over 50. These groups probably accounted for less than 10% of my business.

I sold a load of them too but they were still crap because I now know they would never do what it said on the tin, or as the law would say they 'would not meet legitimate policyholder expectation' thanks to the life offices and 'promises promises' and the regulators (Mark Weinberg) and his LAUTRO assumed expenses. The cost was never a reason to sell them.

It looked more like a statement of fact than defensiveness.

So why not elaborate on what your point of view actually is?
