Dorothy Perkins storecard ppi

Hi

Many many years ago I had a dorothy perkins card that I was charged PPI on, I have since paid the card off and moved house probably more than once.

I don't know what that account number is etc, am I still ok to write to Santander (I think) to try and get my ppi back, or should I take another route.

Any help/advice would be great

Daisy

  • Ive just tried and failed with my dp storecard, had ppi on the account since 1995 and the 2.5 page epic reply was pants and put the blame onto me. Said ive had numerous chances to cancel and didnt, the box was ticked on the form so ive accepted it the insurance. My argument is the ppi was never explained to me and i never filled out the firm the shop assistant did, i was a skint student also workin% for peanuts at the time and when they gloss up the discount you get if you take the card and dont have to pay for the items on the day is music to anybodys ears.
Going to take this to the ombudsman now and hopefully get something back.
it was ge capital for years then it changed to santander but if you know your address or info from the time you applied they will still have your original application form.

    Santander may have no records.

Also, it is whoever sold you the policy that you complain to, not necessarily the lender. If it was somebody from Dorothy Perkins then presumably it is Arcadia.

I very much doubt FOS has jurisdiction over the activities of Arcadia in 1995.

i opened my account in a dorothy perkins store in 1995 so back then the lender was GE Capital, over the years it changed to santander.

the address i sent my claim to even though it is now santander is the same address when it was GE capital.

the letter i got yesterday was from santander saying basicaly i had no chance because the box on my original form was ticked and they sent me a copy of the form.....even though i didnt fill in the form, didnt tick the box, all the other boxes are empty etc....

the letter also said i was given a booklet explaining the insurance details - total horlicks!!!!

"in relation to the sales process in store there was no requirement upon us to record the sales process and so we have no way of knowing what took place"

"i note that the process that we had in place was to make clear that it was not compulsory" nothing was made clear or even explained to me....they just glossed up that i got all my stuff without paying for it there and then plus get a discount if i got this store card.

i was an 18 year old skint student living at home with my mum but none of this was questioned or asked and that part of the original form is empty, i was not asked if i was employed or a student.

no matter how long ago or if the accounts closed still try your luck with them.
  • Hi,

Sounds like I have a similar problem.
I had an evans account as a young 19yr old many moons ago. And finished paying it off (after keep spending and running it up a bit) approx 9years ago. Again like you the store filled out the form after I filled in my address and signed.
Anyway wrote to Santander after finding out they took over accounts from GE Capital, they wrote back to me asking for more info, which I sent as much as I had (not much - no acc nos). Today I have recieved a letter from Santander stating 'due to the length of time since I used the account, all data has been removed from their records!' They've said this is their final letter but I can contact FLA (who I've heard are helpless) who may consider my complaint.
Can anyone help? What should I do?
  • I've just had exactly the same 2.5 page epic reply letter by the sounds of it, the quotes are all exactly the same! I've had a major rant about it on the "Not Regulated by FOS" thread (Has anyone ever got anywhere with Santander, I think I called it). I've filled out the online FLA form but I'm not holding my breath. I'd love to know the same, if/when we get the even bigger "Get Knotted" from Santander for daring to contact the FLA, what do we do then?
  • I want to know why companies feel that it is okay to screw people out of money like this. missold PPI breaks trust for customers and major conglomerates.
  • Hmm, ok. but some people actually wanted ppi. I, like many others did, on a credit card, due to my employment status at the time. Fortunately I was able to pay the balance, on time, every month, so didn't pay any ppi. But the policy was there, just in case.
  • Hi I know this is an old thread but only just realised I can chase this ppi up do you send the info to the head office at santandar ?
