The OP did refer to "a couple of occasions" but I can't see that makes much difference.

We are all agreed it shouldn't have happened but if they borrowed once and repaid then it strengthens the argument that there was no intention to permanently deprive.
the op however did not mention that they paid back either amount so it does make a difference

, the first time of borrwing is wrong morally and in terms of their contract but could be put down to a mistake and a serious error of judgement however doing it a second time because they got away with it the first time ,,there is no excuse then

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find that the OP says this has happened more than once.

Reply #7 the original post has been quoted luckily for us since the OP has deleted the post her end. Yes the OP says " on a couple of occaisons I borrowed some money from one of the customers I support"

    The OP also says
The customer has told her brother who has reported me so resulting in my suspension. This only happened this morning and when I attended the meeting to be told I was being suspended, I denied it because I was in shock and didn't know what I was thinking.
So for those who are attempting to give the OP the benefit of the doubt - think again. They are a financial abuser and knew full well what they had done was wrong so they tried to lie their way out of it.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

This is financial abuse, (yes of a small amount but how can an employer trust you) surely you won't get another support worker job. Though I think you might need to have a criminal record for it to show on a new CRB
  • No they will get barred and this will show up on their CRB under the POVA list bit.

    Exactly.....

Although it is very poor practice (and most likely gross misconduct) to borrow money from such a client it is not a crime if it was a genuine loan and the OP intended to pay it back.

I am afraid in this situation as other posters have pointed out, it is a very serious matter and will be treated as a crime. The best OP can hope for is a speedy investigation that will result in inclusion on the Protection of Vulnerable Adults register, which will show up on all future enhanced CRB checks-in short they will not work in the same position of trust again. It is financial abuse. Whether or not the family want to take this further, will be up to them, it could be interpreted as theft and reportable to the police at worst.

It does not matter if the OP was intending to pay it back, what matters is they used their position of trust to gain financial advantage. We know very little about the service user-did this person have full capacity for example?

Either way, if you need a loan you go to a bank, family or if you are that desperate, a payday loan company. You don't exploit vulnerable people in your care.

Sorry OP I am not at all sympathetic. Safeguarding training and its implications on your practice will have been one of the first training programmes you did before doing your job, it is mandatory training.

Some people you care for are often so grateful for your help, they would give you anything-that does not mgive you licence to take it! We are not allowed to accept any form of gift-even chocolates-for fear it is misinterpreted as financial abuse. It is company policy to refer to the manager.
