Raw feeder here :) Been doing it nearly 3 years now and I wouldn't switch back.
I can't say I have a typical daily meal - I used to do mealplans initially but when you get into the swing of it you get a lot more relaxed about it. Now I order my balance over the month (so, going by the prey model ratio of 80:10:10 meat/offal/bone, and ordered 100lb a month, I order 80lb mixed minces and meat chucks, 10lb offal - 5lb being liver - and 10lb various bones. I then know that I get the right proportions over the month regardless of what I feed.
Dug out some old posts on a dog forum I'm on and here was an example of a week's food
Monday - 1lb chicken mince, 0.5lb green tripe mince
Tuesday - 1lb ox chunky tripe, 0.3lb chicken wings (1 or two wings), 0.4lb liver
Wednesday - 1lb ox heart chunks
Thursday - 1lb lamb & tripe mince, 0.3lb chicken necks (3-5 necks, roughly), 0.5lb mixed pig offal
Friday - 1lb chicken mince, 0.5lb ox heart chunks
Saturday - 1lb beef mince, 0.5lb green tripe mince
Sunday - 1lb 'eco' mince (this contains some offal so this counts towards some of the offal amount), 0.5lb chicken carcass (small carcass or half a large carcass)

Do bear in mind that when you first start, you don't want to feed a huge variety, but introduce each new meat slowly to be sure it agrees with the dog's tummy

I also raw feed but I buy it in ready mixed, I did try and do it myself but my pair had the runs so decided to get someone else get the mix right. I buy mine in from natural instinct and it costs me between £5 and £6 a week to feed a sheltie and a Bichon. My pair took to it right away and I didn't have a problem with changing them over from dried food to raw. I was told that I wouldn't be able to feed my Bichon on a raw diet as she'd come from a puppy farm ( ex breeding !!!!! ) but she's had no problem with it at all.

I switched to raw for my pug about 5 months ago - so far, so good. We order mince & bones from www.raw2paw.co.uk and supplement with chicken wings and lamb bones from the supermarket (when I'm near a Morrisons I always go in as they sell bones from the butchers' offcuts labelled as 'ideal for stock' at £1/kg and usually have lots of meat on the ribs etc).

He weighs just over 9kg and gets about 100g mince in the morning (supplemented with a few pieces of liver or kidney a couple of times a week) and bones weighing around 125g in the evening. I also do a vegetable mush for him which he gets 50g of a few times a week.

It's really easy, he loves it, I love it because I know he's not getting any nasty additives etc and last but not least his pooping has greatly reduced!!
  • I partly feed my German Sheperd raw, she has a very delicate stomach and reactive skin!

Totally allergic to fish, cannot stomach red meat so I just give her a few chicken carcasses or chicken thighs on top of her dried food. This seems to work very well for her and she loves chewing and crunching the bones.

If you have a nice butcher that fillets his own chicken, you may get the carcasses very cheap or even free....
  • What about cats? Is a raw diet suitable for the feline rulers of the universe?

It can be, but apparently cats are the real decision makers - they have to deem it satisfactory for their superior tastebuds and this includes all the right components of a balanced raw diet, such as bone and offal. Ground bone in mince can be a substitute if they won't chew on raw bones but you do need to ideally feel a selection of meats to provide a variety of nutrients.

I did try raw steak mince and stewing steak but they weren't having it. Cooked the mince with a little beef Oxo and they were dancing around the kitchen!
