Good morning Diary and MSE Friends, :hello:

Am having a moment of solidarity with everyone in the UK; frozen nose, fingers and toes after drinking my first cuppa tea outside while watching the dawn with Old Auntie. A poem of pink and gold was my reward - how different to yesterday's ending which was thick swirling fog that suited my mood exactly.

I was sorry to hear that ex's dog is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. It is always sad to hear of the loss of a much loved pet, even when one doesn't know the Master/Mistress.

Yes you are right, especially when the pet's death was avoidable. I do feel guilty; a dog with a loving home shouldn't die from a simple ear infection, but that is what happened because Ex was hopeless at administering the antibiotic ear-drops - which I knew about.

I was very fond of this particular dog who stayed with us several times over the years while her owner was away; I should have taken her with me when I collected BD and Auntie - she already had the infection then - but recently she'd turned against BD becoming very aggressive towards him, so my priority was getting him away from her unprovoked attacks.

I had dark feelings against the three people [all extended family] who could have taken BD to the vet when it became obvious that he was in pain, weeks before I arrived. None of them made the effort; one even laughed and said they were waiting for BD to die.. That person saw him the other day and commented:
"My God he looks like a different dog now!" (which he does).

I am as guilty for leaving Ex's Dog with him, as my family were for not getting BD the help he needed.

..So you may imagine that yesterday these feelings were over-powering; the weeds bore the brunt of it to the point where the compost heap is now over-flowing. I lost more than two hours in meditation which has helped, but am still struggling with the lesson.
Today's task is to give the young trees I cleared yesterday some fertiliser, and plant out broccoli seedlings between them.

Suppose I'd also better wrap the children's presents ready for delivery to the party venue; am not planning to join the family this year.

  • Oh Gosh I SO understand how you must feel, and yet you have nothing to berate yourself for - BD was of course your primary concern. Not that I expect this to make a jot of difference but I too send you a hug

    Thank you, Dot. :)

..Gosh, it's been a while since I had so much affection, :):):) I'd better make the most of it. ;)

Well, my gardening objective was achieved today, although by the time the new seedlings had been watered in, the last of today's light had leaked from the sky. Once again I had to call CD to lead me back up the steep and rocky path; it's a good job I can trust her not to walk off the edge! :D

Wrapping presents was abandoned in favour of a much-needed nap, so that task is stilll to do. :o

Hmm, can't find the jars of sweet mincemeat I brought to make pies with, as a seasonal treat for the grown-ups who I don't have a gift for (it's a family tradition). Am thinking of changing the recipe in favour of a kind of bakewell tart/pielet as I've got almonds and free range eggs, and can get hold of some early strawberries which although not quite as traditional as mince pies, at least they're local ingredients.

To everyone who celebrates it; Happy Solstice! :j  :j
There's a nearby "After the end of the World" party tomorrow - am tempted to attend, just for a couple of hours, as they've booked a wicked band! :D
  • Hello Peoples - I'm back! :D

Mistress has done it again - turned on her box then gone back to bed - I is the only person awake here. So I has a choice; go and see if Pepe's New Dog wants to come hunting avocados with me, or play on here 'til Mistress wakes up and gives us lunch.

I has had enough of that horrid chain to last me ten seasons so the question is what Youngest Master would call a "nobrainer" ;) and here I is! :D

    .....

Humpf! Martin just sended me a message saying I can't post links, so you cannot see the card Mistress and I made to celebrate Shortest Day. Now I is a bit cross - maybe there's enough time for me to fetch just one avocado before Mistress wakes up? ..Is ok if she never knows, isn't it? :p

Love and Licks to all dog-friendly peoples, :)

    Clever Dog xxx
  • Hahaha CD - quickly checked in to see how your Mistress is today and found this message from you, straight after hers! You have made me laugh. Mistress is a bit sad at present as you probably know, so you take extra special care of her, DO NOT run off, not even for a little bit, and urge her to go to the party, some two legged company from her own species is just the ticket, I say. It's all very well typing to her friends in the box, and we do so love typing to her (and you) but there is simply no substitute for face to face conversation, I am sure you will agree

    Hello Diary,

Well well; we survived! :D I incline to the view that the Mayan stone-mason simply ran out of room to extend his calender further - jokes about this abound amongst my RL friends. :)

Closer to home I have had to increase the pain meds for both Blind Dog and Old Auntie as they were each having trouble getting from standing to lying down yesterday, and BD can't curl up in his favourite chair any more - they're on the maximum dose now.

DS4 has just turned up with a huge bag - not gifts, but his washing! He's taken CD and FD for a walk while the machine gets on with it. When he gets back he wants to be useful; I think the sad time has come to choose a spot in the garden and dig a preparatory hole - God that is terrible to see my thought written down - but when the moment comes I will not be strong enough to do it, DS4 and I both know that.. :o
