Best Credit card to use in USA/Canada

We are having a special holiday in Canada and USA in September and have saved so that we can splash out a bit. I have my Building Society bank card but think taking a credit card would also be a good idea, and would pay it all off when we get back. Can anyone advise please on what would be a good deal under these circumstances, as I would need to apply for one. Thanks
