WARNING - Landround Free Flights to Europe Scam

I got this "Free Flight to Europe" voucher when I bought a HP Printer and digital camera a while back (anyone remember the £99 argos deal?).

Was looking forward to my free flight, so I filled in all the details and sent it off... only to receive another form, asking me to fill out all of the same details again, plus some more.

Basically, I have to go wherever they give me, whenever they give me, on my own, and... to top it off... once they tell me when and where I am going, I am NOT ALLOWED TO CANCEL, and have to pay an £85 fine if I can't make it!

Add this to other complications like having to put in travel insurance details on the form without knowing when and where you will be going (unless you want to buy theirs of course!), and you have one very annoying waste of time.

These "free" flights (forgot to add, you have to pay up to £40.00 in taxes as well) are all over the place at the moment. I thought I'd post here to save people bothering with it, and more importantly, to make sure people don't buy things that come with "a free flight" from Landround just to get a free flight...

Because if I had done that, I'd be mighty !!!!!!!

Almost every "free flight" promotion is a scam.

Firstly, they NEVER include taxes/charges, so the saving compared to a "normal" fare is far less than you first think.

Secondly, they OFTEN don't let you specify where, or when, you fly from, or to.

Thirdly, they OFTEN require you to buy over-priced accommodation from them to qualify for the "free" flight.

All in all, they are not really worth the effort involved and you'd do better to have bought the item without the "incentive" at a slightly cheaper price.

To be honest I expected the above. But THIS... is in my opinion, inexcusable:

i think the reason they have a cancellation fee is to stop people booking the flight with no intentions of going?

But they won't tell you when and where your going until the confirmation letter, from which point you cannot cancel, which is just down-right sneaky.
