Breakdown cover - towing distance

I've had a read through this forum and the MSE breakdown article but what doesn't seem to get mentioned (or at least I missed it if it was) is the distance a car can be towed. I'm looking at taking out cover but what I'm surprised at is the fairly basic cover I normally take doesn't seem very useful because the towing limit appears to be a mere 10 miles? I assume that means that if they come out to look at the car and can't repair it, they won't take it to a garage if there isn't one within 10 miles?

I haven't had to use breakdown cover on either of the two cars covered but concerned now that the cover I've been taking isn't actually any use because my car is normally more than 10 miles from a garage. Better policies claim to take you on to the destination so I assume that would include taking the car to a further garage but it doesn't seem very clear.

Am I understanding this correctly or not?

Look for Relay / Recovery Cover as well as breakdown
