Carpenter ant advice.

We have carpenter ants I think behind our boiler in the kitchen. They are all around the external flue and crawl out of the boiler late on the night.

The kitchen is spotless so no food or crumbs or water around for them to be attracted too.

Iv used dethlac, ant bait stations and erazer bait stations with no luck. Iv read on the Internet that normal bait stations aren't useful for carpenter ants bu neithe redoes it say which bait stations are ?

It's difficult as them being around the boiler we unsure what we can use for fear if setting the place on fire, and apart from seeing them around the flue externally and all over the boiler inside we cans actually see where they could be nesting.

Getting fed up now, bleach works well on the ones we see running around the floor and walls but I want to get to the heart if the problem.

Iv just had t give up my job as well, so with only m other halts wage coming in we can't afford to pay for a professional exterminator.

Why are you convinced they are carpenter ants? My mates OH who has a morbid fascination with all things like this says they aren't indigenous to this country.

TBH I hadn't heard of the beastie til I read your post and immediately had this, flippant sorry, vision of a large creature running round with a saw in one hand (???) and an adjusting tool in the other.

    Cheers

  • I wouldn't think carpenter ants would nest in a boiler - they tend to like wooden things.

Do you have the money to call someone to check the boiler for your peace of mind then continue with your baiting.
