Is the gas front necessary for Baxi Bermuda SL3 backboiler?

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't trying to be awkward, I just wanted to know how the thing works as I thought there was a chance that the two units could work independently of each other.
It looks as though I'll have to wait till it breaks down and isn't worth repairing.
I'm not worried about the construction of the flue, it's unusual but nothing wrong with it. It's a cast iron pipe enclosed within a steel framework to which wooden battens are attached and plasterboard nailed to box it in (same upstairs and through the loft to the roof). At floor and ceiling level it is attached by clamps to the steel floor or ceiling beams. You can break it up to remove and then dismantle the steel framework if you want.
A problem though is the whole thing sits on a concrete plinth slightly higher than floor level which would have to be hacked out, and then there would be the problem of finding matching parquet blocks to make the area good...Solar install June 2022, Bath

Why don't you try nd make more of a feature of it and make it look better in your room?
You could increase the width of the false chimney breast, fit a new back panel and hearth and new fireplace, which will make it look a hell of a lot nicer.
The fire was great, good heat output, had underbed lighting and very few things went wrong with them. The boiler was tried and tested, last forever ( 28years is longest one I have swapped over) Parts are still readily available ( there are over 2 million in situ in UK alone today ) and you haven't got all the pipework on display which you would have with a wall mounted boiler.
You can make it look better, it is very contemorary when it first came out. It still is. If it was still available now, it would sell, but Baxi went through a stupid thought process of not wanting to make fires anymore, which was wrong IMO. They last sold 2 years ago for over £800 for the fire alone !0 -
Can't help with the question but thanks for posting the pictures up. Might be a useful pointer as to what might be hiding in our chimney breast - we think it originally had a back boiler, which was later removed and a simple gas fire put on. The relevance being we were thinking of putting a wood stove in, but if its based around a concrete fire box etc, we may have problems and might be better getting it all removed. A bit of investigating when I come to decorate the lounge is in order me thinks!Adventure before Dementia!0

Hi Dave, I remember you said you were in Weston, Bath, so do you also live in a BISF house? I know there are some there as well as here in Twerton.
Just asking as that type of fireplace/flue is typical of a BISF house but unusual in any other type.
You can probably fit a wood burner in the inner concrete box, at least a smaller one, or you could break it out to accommodate a larger one but you'd probably need to support the flue some other way.
The photo of the fireplace and flue being dismantled came from https://www.bisfhouse.com which has all sorts of information.Solar install June 2022, Bath
