My dad passed away in April and the DWP are now sending my mum bills regarding benefits that they say were paid into my dad's account after he died - DLA, pension credit and also his pension I think.

When we went to the bank to advise of his death, there was roughly £400 in his account. The only other money he left was in the form of 2 insurance policies and these were used to pay towards the funeral.

My mum says that these are the second lot of bills she has received, the first lot came to about £400, she rang the bank who said that they would pay them from dad's account if she sent them the bills, so she did (without keeping a copy or taking note of any details).

Surely if there is no money in dad's estate, my mum will not be liable for this money? The bank account they benefits were paid into was in dad's sole name, they had no joint accounts.
