Broke wrist at job center!

What a nightmare! This all happened at my wifi which was held upstairs of the job center. i managed to get up the stairs ok but after the interview had ended on my way back down i stumbled and tumbled down around 10 steps i actually heard the brake in my wrist and i fainted as soon as i looked at it because it was in a position it was clearly not supposed to be in
I woke up with lots of members of staff around me who offered me a cold drink and told me an ambulance was on the way.I was rused to A and E given morphine sent straight to xray and also had to undergo emergency surgery as it was such a bad brake.i was in hospital for 3 days and im now in a cast!
Now here is the major issue, i suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and on the day of the interview i phoned my adviser to say, i was having a really bad day that day i was in a lot of pain and was not fit to attend. I was told that i have no choice and it was a mandatory so i forced my self to go.
I always walk with a stick and on this day my arthritis was so painful i was very unsteady on my feet and this is the reason i fell.
The doctor in the hospital was ever so nice, i told him about how it happened and he told me to go and see a solicitor about this.
At the moment i am just glad to be back home, im in a lot of pain and have lots of bruising down the side of my body as well as the wrist injury.
To top it off when i got home there was a letter on the floor reminding me of my next wfi in 3 weeks time

get a no win no fee solicitor and do it asap, and make sure you explain as above, also get someone to take photos of the bruising,i would also write to the manager of the jc+ explaining why you wont be at your next wfi,and if he needs proof he can contact the hospital or your solicitor0

Did you ask for your appointment to be downstairs?
Are there interview rooms downstairs?
Is there a lift available? If so did you ask to use the lift?
Did you tell the JCP that you'd be unable to tackle the stairs when you arrived there?0 -
Sorry to hear of your accident, I hope you recover soon.
I would certainly consider a Solicitor. But wait until you are better and you are sure there are no complications. A solicitor does not work as quick as you think and they would wait until you were well, otherwise there is no way to assess a claim.
I am currently going through a large and complicated MN claim and rather than going for the first one can I suggest two things?
Firstly check your home insurance, you may have legal cover. This would mean your insurers passing it onto their own claim team who then pass it onto one of their panel specialists. The advantage of this is that you will have a 99% chance of getting a tier 1 or 2 counsel, this is important if you win as they are a much better level than the majority of the ones that advertise on the TV.
Secondly, your insurers would cover the cost of the indemnity, which, should you lose you would have to pay.
From personal experience the difference could be thousands!0 -

You really do need to make a formal complaint about this disgraceful behaviour of JCP. In particular you need to emphasise that despite informing them that you were having a bad day you were forced to attend.
Their complaints procedure isHere0 -
I can't offer any advice but I am so sorry you had to endure this and that I live in a society where we have let genuine people with disabilities endure such demeaning treatment.
Complain,sue copy to the papers!0 -
Why would they have the room up stairs when they saw you had a stick? was there a lift available to use?0

Our jcp WRAG advisors are all upstairs as well in the local office, and there's no lift, they just expect miracles to happen and those in wheelchairs to just get up and walknot all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!0

Ours has a life, my friend begged and begged to be allowed to use it and they refused saying it was only for staff. She also has bowel problems and no matter how desperate (or how much she panics about it) they all refuse access to their toilet, wouldn't be even so bad if she wasn't there for walking, bowel and anxiety problems!
I'm sorry this happened to you, I normally hate the trying to claim for slips and falls however I hope you not only get compensation but that it goes public and the staff shamed into treating a disabled person like this!Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card
