Carpets - Advice needed

I am about to buy some carpets and need some advice about which type to get

Would it be better to get wool or man made, and which underlay should I get?

My budget is about £20 per metre for the carpet

It is for a flat with a concrete floor.

To start with it will be just us, a middle aged couple and possibly a cat. We may rent it in the future as well.

Laminate isn't allowed except in kitchens and bathrooms. They have been tiled.

Anyone I should avoid or any recommendations?

short pile wool carpet, hessian backed with rubber underlay, don't get too light a colour as the places you walk on the most could start to look darker, maybe a mixed browny fleck of some sort? Thats the sort of thing i would get.

80:20 wool nylon mix if you can get it for the price. It will last years and can be cleaned over and over again.

The higher the oz the closer/heavier the weave = more luxurious = better quality.

Loop = will get caught and pulled if you have pets especially cats. Loops tend to shorter and tighter. Won't feel as nice underfoot.

If buying carpet please avoid the sheds and their everlasting (confusing) sales. Fin=d a good independent company who sell you the carpet and lay it then if you have problems they will fix it.

Sheds use independent fitters so nobody actually takes ownership of a problem.

If the shop doesn't get too sniffy about it it is worth buying your underlay online.
