in Credit cards
If I look at my accounts online with HSBC it shows I have a £1000 limit credit card, currently £10 in credit as I accidentally paid some money into it a while back, so £1010 available all together. This credit card also shows up on my latest credit report.
I've not used this card in a very long time, and as I've got to book a flight to Australia at Christmas I thought I'd use that card. I rang HSBC to get them to send me a new card and they say they can't do that, as I don't actually have a credit card with them and would have to go through a credit check.
Does this sound right? Has anyone been through this before? I'd assumed if a card shows up on your credit records then it's been approved!

Got £820 back from HSBC! Now entering comps like mad with the hope of winning a nice long holiday....

What status does it show on your credit file? Even closed accounts show for 6 years after the date of closing.
Did you actually ask for the account to be closed or did it just go dormant? When you give them your account details what do they say their system shows your account as being?
It could be that they closed your account due to inactivity but then it should have been reported to the agencies as fully settled (or something similar depending on which agency and which mechanism you are looking at the report via)0
