London break

Hi,
We are thinking of going to London for 2 nights before we go to Butlins in Bognor Regis.

We will have the car so was looking for somewhere that has parking and has good tube links into London that take no longer than an hour to get to but is also not too out the way to get to Bognor on the monday as we will be travelling down from Liverpool.

I have only ever been to the airports in London and the kids would love to go and see the sights. I will have 2 kids and my husband with me too.

If anyone has any good ideas out there it would be fab and also the best sites to book the train tickets on into London and deals for the sights in London would be great... in fact any help would be fantastic.

I await your helpful replies.

Thanks

Jules.
P.s Apologies if i'm posting on the wrong forum please just direct me to the correct one if i am.

Hello. You don't suggest a budget and I think you mean stay at a hotel where you can park the car rather than parking the car in the suburbs while you stay more central for a couple of nights.

There are various chain and cheaper independents and a few smarter hotels in the western/SW suburbs - am assuming you'll be travelling down the M40 to the M25/London then out on the A3.

Look at around Hounslow or Osterley (Piccadilly Line tube), Feltham, Twickenham, Richmond (if budget bigger) or Kingston (all have trains into Waterloo, Richmond has the District Line tube too). If shuttling in and out of London make sure it's near a station, especially if further out, for example not Heathrow hotels on the A4 Bath Rd north of the airport.

You will gain nothing buying train tickets in advance. Whether getting the tube or the suburban trains you'll probably be best getting travelcards at the station. These will cover you on trains, tubes and buses etc. If you're getting travelcards from a rail station they will also work with the 2 for 1 offers at http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/.

I would get your train tickets at home the day before you travel. Tickets bought at tube stations can not be used for 241 offers. These need to be purchased at a train station.(Not all tube stations are manned).
Go to your local station before you travel and enquire. My local station did not know they could issue London travel cards until I told them they could.

Welcome to MSE. If you have a look at a previous post I made about the £20.12 rooms at the Mercure Watford, this might suit your needs if you are planning to stay in August. The hotel has free parking and is only 10 minutes drive to Watford Junction station which has parking and fast trains take only 20 minutes to get to Euston. It is not far from the M1 if your are coming from Liverpool and you can get on the M25 to Bognor as that is also near there. The British Museum is walking distance from Euston station once in London and only a ten minute journey from Euston to Waterloo on the Northern tube line to go to the London Eye, see Houses of Parliament etc. Children 10 years and under travel free. I would use www.tfl.gov.uk to plan your joutneys in advance to get the msot out of your time.

How old are your children? We have 2 children (6 months and 4 years) and find that its easier to get a serviced apartment. But like susancs says, the Mecure offer is very good at the moment.

When are you going? Depending how close to London you are driving, you could park at Westfield London (zone 2) and get the central line in. Parking there is currently weekdays £5 and weekends £8. This offer is until October, and you would need to notify the parking people that you are leaving the car overnight.

  • There's a Travel Lodge next door to Balham station opening next week (just happened to go past it this morning). By tube this would be c20 minutes to any station in central London and the railway station is very handy for getting to the south coast. Loads of shops and cafes and restaurants in Balham and they'd be cheaper than central London

    eBay - Travelodge London

Uxbridge/Northolt/Heathrow areas will be good. About a 1hr on the tube into the centre. Ideal as you will be coming down the M40, then the M25 to the A3.

Uxbridge is at the end of the M40, Northolt & Heathrow are on the LH side as you circle london.

  • Not sure that link does anything to help me living in Cornwall and I do not meet the criteria for a discount card. What part of the site applies to what I'm looking for?

Asc83, you really should start a new thread. Click here ===>>> newthread.gif

As this thread is about London, and you mentioned "travel card", people have kind of assumed that you are talking about a Travelcard.

Are you perhaps asking about Railcards?
If so, perhaps mention that in your new thread.
