Any recommendations for DVD recorders

Options
Can anyone recommend a DVD recorder that will do the sort of things a sky+ box does for those of us that do not want to subscribe to Sky?

you can get HD based DVD recorders from around £270 or so (i.e. Richer Sounds have a Panasonic with 80GB disk for £290 currently), other alternatives are the freeview PVR like the Humax at Dixons for example, £170 for a freeview adaptor and 80GB HD

guess evrything depends on what equipment you already have and what you want to achieve with the equipment

Woby_Tide is quite right of course, it is the matching that is the problem. I have a Sony IDTV but it is one of the early ones and cannot cope with the latest "red button" features that the BBC has introduced (Sony tell me the early models cannot be upgraded) although it picks up all the freeview channels. I want to be able to record one (analogue or digital channel whilst watching another analogue or digital channel. I have problems in that when asking in the stores I get conflicting advice as to what the various machines will do. I suppose my best bet is to get direct on to the makers and hope they don't get too technical.

I have a Thompson PVR which has dual digital tuners with a hard disk - no DVD. This allows me to watch digital tv, view 2 weeks tv schedule, pause live tv, record two programs at the same time - pretty much same as the sky box for freeview.
Best gadget I have bought for a long time and the quality is perfect - recordings no different from the original (far as I can tell). Its not the answer if you like to keep films etc but if all you want is record, watch delete then this is a great gadget.
Other manufacturers are Humax and Pace

Why not a DTV VB-T PCI card by X-Stream for the PC cost around £55.

Thats the route I have chosen.
