Electoral Roll (merged)

  • I had the same issue. Equifax's online system ignores the Rolling Register but their paper system (the report you get if you pay £2) includes it. What made it worse that was they were extremely efficient in removing my electoral registration for my old address (typically), so it looked as if I had vanished.

You can file a Notice of Correction for free - this will be seen by anyone who searches the Equifax record. I did this and mine says that I am definitely on the Electoral Roll and can provide documentary proof of it.
  • Hello There,

I've added the Notice of Correction, and got a letter from my council spelling it out. Had several arguements with Equifax...

They sent me an email yesterday...

"The information shown on your MyEquifax Report reflects what lenders use,
or have available to them to evaluate your credit application. At this
time, most lenders do not accept or receive the Rolling Register
    information.

However, during the remaining months of 2004, a major initiative is
underway in the Financial Services industry to change the manner in which
consumer information is received and used.

As part of that initiative, lenders are changing their systems to accept
more of the information held by Equifax, such as the updates received
monthly from Local Authorities to the Electoral Roll, which is commonly
    known as Rolling Register.

In conjunction with this change, your MyEquifax Report will also include
this information, which will enable you to see the information that the
    lenders will view."

Does anybody know which lenders are adopting the scheme quicker than others? That would really help!

I've asked Equifax, but God Bless them, they are not the quickest at anything!

    Cheers!

    Hi,
I moved into my new house in July this year. I have waiting for today for the Electrol Roll details to be updated, I have called my council electrol roll dept to make sure I am on it, and they confrimed this.

Brought a credit file from Equifax, but Im not on it!
Does this update over night on Equifax and Experian?! Or does it take a long time?

    Thanks,
    James :-/

I think it can take upto three months and varies council by council.

I think you can contact Equifax or Experian and ask them to put a note on your file or even to check why the update hasn't taken place yet.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

I was wondering the same thing. I was told by the council that the list becomes public Dec 1. I'm waiting to see what difference it makes to my credit score.
The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.
  • Re the last post does anyone know if this now happens - I forgot to send in the registration form for the electoral roll for last Ocober and have only just sent it off in the last couple of weeks - will it show up on credit searches soon that I am still living here? I've not had reason to apply for credit for anything recently so don't know if it would have affected me.

    Hi

I am not on the electoral roll, at least i dont think i am. I was a student and moved around too much so did not bother. I have not got bad credit as i run a couple of succesful businesses and have money. i have an egg credit card and loan but when i have applied for a couple of credit cards that should be easy to obtain i have been rejected.

somebody has said that it is too do with not being on the electoral roll? true? any ideas? thanks in advance

This might be the reason for your rejections. Have you checked at your local town hall whether you are on the electoral roll?( Or have you had a polling card for the forthcoming election?)
You say that you run succesful businesses - do you have bank accounts for these (and accounts prepared by someone for the taxman?) or personal accounts. Business loans tend to be cheaper than personal loans for good accounts.
You don't say amount o/s on Egg card and loan but this could also be a reason for decline if lenders think you are over exposed.

It's too late for the General election (Deadline 12 March). See:-
    http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/your-vote/registering.cfm

Quoting from the site it says:
The full register is used for elections, preventing and detecting crime and checking applications for credit. The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing.

You can get on the rolling register which is updated monthly.
