accidental payments?

So i was wondering whether anybody here knows some money law (i for one don't!).

Well here's my situation, I had a accidental payment of £265 put in to my account by a certain money lending company, the back has attempted to contact them but to no such luck we have tried everything within our power, now as a under 18 this clearly shouldn't of happened I'm not even allowed to access such facilities! But it did, now this money has been sitting in my account for 8 months now, 4 months in to this the bank recommended me to move it in to another account so that i could continue to use my account as normal! I was wondering when or whether in the future there's a time limit on how long before they can no longer collect the money!

Any help would be great!

Charlie

Basically, 6 years is the standard law of limitations within England and Wales under civil law. After that it doesnt stop things being owed but does stop them going to court about it

Yes, I agree, it is 6 years.

Put it into a high interest savings account and forget it tilll they ask for it back, which they will do when the company do an audit or at end of the tax year.

Enjoy the interest at the end of it all.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I would say leave it where it is.
You might find one day that the bank will debit it back from your account even if you do not have the funds.

Write a letter of complaint to the bank insisting they withdraw the funds from the account and keep it in one of their suspense accounts - then you get on with your life.

and the pdl have you called, written to them...
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • who are pdl? if you are referring to people yes we have called them and the bank has written to them all we get is we will call you back and no replies to the letters.
  • As I have said do not touch the money - leave it - pretend it is not there.
If it is still there after 6 years and 1 day - happy spending.
