Carbon Monoxide detectors

Can anyone explain why carbon monoxide detectors have a lifespan of approx 5 years? Mine was bleeping as batts needed changing, on inspection it has a sticker saying replace by sept 06! Missed it by a while, but as ours lives on top of the kitchen units I never pay it any attention. Maybe a lesson to be learnt!?

most detectors are electro chemical devices. the chemical used decays over a period of time. thats why most makers say replace after 5 yrs.Get some gorm.0

There was a thread on this subject a while ago - make sure what you have is a CO ALARM not a detector !0

A CO detector comes in 2 main forms...one is the cheap and nasty patch which changes colour when CO is present (so at least ppl know what youve died of). The other detects the CO in the air and gives a warning alarm when reached a certain criteria (xppm in xhrs..normally a short term and long term reading). This still monitors the gas (mines gives a digital reading) but will give warning before the situation becomes dangerousSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
