Dog Insurance,Whos Good??

Hopefully im posting in the correct place.

I am having a monumental nightmare with my current dog insurance not sure if im alllowd to name them so wont just incase!!! I want to change and would like peoples opinions on who to go with.

Basically they have denied recieving my claim form by post and up until this morning denied recieving it by fax four times!!! After my vet spoke to them they managed to recieve it!! So now im waiting for it to be assessed.

They have been unhelpful on the phone, the claim has been going on for nearly a month and im still waiting for money.

Im not after cheap insurance but a good insurance that provides life cover per new treatment between 5-7 thousand.

We have a big dog and should something go wrong it will be expensive.

Are there companies out there that deal with "claims" promptly and not constantly lose forms?

Can anyone recommened a company thats been quick and efficient from the start and paid quickly??

I hope to not have to make any more claims and if i do i dont want to have to deal with the endless phonecalls that i have had to make today.

Any advice greatly recieved

thx

    Which? rates pet insurers here:

Bear in mind your claim history may mean it is uneconomic to switch.

  • We were forced to move company due to Halifax stopping pet insurance. Chose John Lewis and bitterly regret it. Dog had crusty dry nose and took her to the vet who initially diagnosed an ear infection which is no surprise as she is a cocker spaniel. However, nose problem didn't clear so she was taken in for scope of nose, skull x-ray, etc. Vet feared that she had a tumour but in fact turned out to be a dry eye problem which was causing a drainage problem with her nose. Treatment is with eye cream which costs £50 a tube. Put in a claim to John Lewis in May for nearly £400 and finally got letter turning down claim towards end of July, citing pre-existing condition. The pre-existing condition turned out to be an ear infection the previous year. Vet has written to John Lewis explaining that the eye problem has no connection to the ear but month later no response. Meanwhile poor dog developed AIHA which is an often fatal blood condition - initially Vet agreed to be paid by John Lewis directly, but they were slow to settle that we now have to pay vet and claim ourselves. We have now been owed at least £400 for this condition for over a month. We have had to cash in a savings plan to pay the vets bills. I honestly think John Lewis believes we are chancers who knew the dog was ill before we joined, but our vet has said he has rarely had such a healthy patient and it is just misfortune that all this has happened since we joined John Lewis. Definitely would not recommend John Lewis!

Get some quotes and use the "Which" guide.

This can also be helpful to compare cover and star ratings
