Overlimit Charges?

Hi all.
sorry if this is a total noob question.

I've been a bit lax & only paid the minimum for the past 2 months on my egg card, so have been hit with an overlimit charge, as the egg interest takes me over.

Are these legit charges, or are they the same as bank charges?

Thanks

  • These charges are far from legit. They are the same as bank charges. It is a punitive fine that has been charged to you on the basis that you have breached the terms and conditions of the agreement. Under English law it is not possible to enforce punitive fines for breach of contract.

    Cool.
Does this apply even though I'm living in Scotland?
Also, does anyone have advice on how to go about complaining regarding these charges?

Why not read the thousands of posts on the subject on the reclaiming board?

I know that this might of already being covered somewhere else but I am putting together a letter to reclaim all my charges from my credit cards and I am just windering if I have to send off £10 with the first letter to find out how much they have charged me.
Also if I didn't have any charges on my credit cards would they still cash the £10 cheque.

    Thanks

As Tom188 said, you'll find far more relevant articles in the 'reclaim your bank charges' section, not here.

You're paying £10 for them to search through 6 years of records for any charges and sending that information to you. if their search returns nothing, it's still a search..

I'd sent it with the request otherwise they'll send you a letter asking for the £10 before giving you the data....
