Can I just ask what kind of boiler you have eg normal cylinder & roof tanks or combi ?

Have you tried your local bathroom suppliers? You can sometimes get really good deals. Your budget should be plenty, except if you have a lot of tiling and you pay someone to do it, that'll push the price up rapidly.

I would advise against laminate on the floor. You have to glue it to prevent water ingress, and if any water does get in the joints the floor will be wrecked.

You are not way off on budget terms, provided you stick to doing as much of the labour, and all of the tiling yourselves.

The 1 thing I would say initially is not to lump the two projects together, keep them entirely separate.
Finish the 1st to the standard required and if the coffers are low, WAIT, before penny pinching on the 2nd 1.

Or even worse compromising on both due to expenditure.

  • Thank you. We are going to start with the main bathroom and make sure that is 100% before we start the next. I want a really nice finish so I think the key is not to rush things.

We have a tank in our airing cupboard and a combi boiler downstairs in the kitchen.

B&Q called last night to let me know they are having a bank holiday sale weekend which is 17% off all bathroom products! Nice of them to let me know.

So perhaps I need to re-think the flooring...

I think you are getting confused between combi boiler & condensing boiler, normally you wouldn't have a cylinder in your airing cupboard with a combi, I just wanted to check before you spend loads of money on pumps as you can't use pumps with a combi.

  • Hmmmmmm i'm not sure in that case. Will check with hubby as to what we have.

We do already have a pump in the airing cupboard for the shower in the en-suite but it is broken.

There is a vague possibility that you still have hot and cold storage tanks installed that are not part of the current heating system and are taking up space and posing an insurance risk, as SCG says, you need to identify what you have, ;)
