First up - the Sony RX-100 looks like a really high end compact camera. It's got a massive sensor in it and goes down to F1.8. Reviews on Amazon are all 5/5. I'll take a look at the DPReview website in a minute.
Anyway....
I walked into a camera shop the other day to take a quick look at the compacts and system compacts (I've got 2 Canon S90s which I love). I explained to them that I was just being nosey really and wasn't looking to buy anything at that moment.
They were keen to show me the Sony RX-100 which, fair enough, looks like a stunning compact.
I was playing with the controls and said "how do you manually set the ISO?"
They salesman responded "why on earth would you want to do that?"
This was said in the tone of someone who couldn't believe what a stupid question had been asked.
I think he meant to say "I don't know actually".
I was going to start explaining that I like to choose a combination of ISO, aperture and shutter speed to balance up noise, depth of field and risk of blurring. Instead I just left it and thought I'd go and look at some internet reviews.
