Long commutes

If you went from London Bridge it would take a bit longer (about 15mins?) than going from Victoria, but you wouldn't have to faff around with changing tube lines, which I imagine would be a total nightmare during rush hour. My commute takes about an hour and a half each way door to door and I don't find it that bad. I also live in Kilburn and get the tube to Waterloo and then the overground to my place of work, so its would be a similarish commute to yours. Obviously it would be nicer if I lived closer to work, but I tend to just sleep through most of my commute so it doesn't bother me that much. Its the cost which means I will eventually move closer to work or get a job closer to home as I currently get a zone 1-6 travel card and I wish I was earning £24k!Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0

Years ago, I was in a similar position to you jobwise and I was offered a job miles away. I ended up doing a similar commute, getting up at 05:30 and not getting home until 19:30. I stuck it for just four months before I got digs in the town where I worked.
Moving didn't save me any money but it did give my life back. It's also seems to be a lot easier to get another job if you have one already.
Good luck with the job BTW.0 -
The interesting thing is I did a Liverpool - Manchester train commute for a year and it took me almost as long! At least you have fast trains. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0

Very true, but the long commute would be on FCC rattletraps, rather than a comfortable Southern train. Probably cheaper on an FCC only season ticket, though. Anyhow the OP previously said Bakerloo line, presumably from Kilburn Park, so would not be direct to LB.
And given that the OP would probably need to be on the Bakerloo by 0700 or very soon after, rush hour doesn't really come into it. Busy maybe, but not crushed out. Changing at Oxford Circus to/from the Victoria line is one of the easiest, if not THE easiest transfers to make.0 -
Thanks for all your comments. It's only the interview stage but I've decided that if I'm successful I'll suck it up for a year at least and try something else in London. I need to get back into some sort of work asap before my work history goes stale
Shame really because my single friend recently up sticks and moved from Brighton to another part of the world. Would've been handy to kip in the spare room.0 -
Oh dear. Got a "we regret to inform you" phone message. Tncus!
Meh! Brighton would've been a bar-st-ard journey anyway.
To even out the disappointment I got an email from another organisation to interview in *drum roll* Amersham :rotfl:0 -
Lucky escape mate - the commute would have killed you.0

There are far too many opportunities in London to be travelling to Brighton everyday. If you really want the job it's better you just mover to Brighton.0

I didn't get the job and if I did I wouldn't have moved there I'd've commuted.
Sorry but the work's just not out there to be choosy about how long the commute it. As long as the job's in SE I'm there.0
