Sharing Broadband
Options

I want to leave the dial up dark ages and sort myself out with broadband.
I'm already a Telewest Digital TV customer and have a Telewest phone line. Therefore BT ADSL is not a real option. Therefore I would like to go for Telewests 256k broadband. I want to share the connection between a PC and a Laptop. The Blueyonder supplied wireless kit is obviously not an option as it only allows one connection at a time, so I thought about asked for a wired connection and fitting my own wireless router. Looking at the blueyonder site all they seem to provide is some sort of dongle at the back of the digital TV box a CAT5 Cable and a Cat5 to USB dongle that connects into your PC? Will a wireless router work and be able to share two simultaneous connections to the web?
Any help would be very appreciated as i'm just getting more confused.

From your question, it's not clear what they would supply you with... I have a TW connection but no Digital TV service and they supplied me with a modem which is directly connected to the outside.
As for your own network you have two ways of doing it:
1) modem==>router==> 2 PCs (as a network configuration)
2) modem==> 1st PC ==> access point/hub ==> 2nd PC (using Windows Interet Sharing)
In both cases you can use wireless or wired, it makes no difference (as long as you have the right equipment)
you can get help form here:

Thanks for the reply. I think i understand about cable modems, but as you can see from the link they don't seem to be supplying modems. I think NTL may be the same.
