Income Support back payments

After 2 and a half years battle, and much hard time, tears and frustration, I've eventually won my Income support appeal (April 2012).
Even after all that, it took them up to now to eventually write to me, telling me I will be sent a cheque for the arrears, and the rates.
I wonder if someone could help me with some answers?
Shouldn't they pay me from the date of my claim, or is there some sort of penalty period? The letter they sent me seems to be missing 13 weeks of entitlement.
The rates they state seem to jump all over. How do I find out what the rates should be, to make sure they haven't made a 'human error'
Are there other things I need to know, such as interest payable on arrears? Cold weather payments. School meals entitlement. I have had to manage on Child Tax Credit, Family Allowance and loans from family.
The money I'll be getting is already owed out.
My family circumstances are: I live with my husband who is not working due to illness. We have 3 children. 1, 6, 9. We own our home.
Thank you in advance.

thats a big question, maybe you would be better getting cab to look at what they say they owe you and if its right0
-
Out of curiosity (you don't have to answer but it may help others) why did they refuse your claim for IS initially when your OH was ill?0
-
What grounds are you claiming I.S on and why did they refuse it in the first place, if you give a bit more info we can help you with some ball park figures maybe0

just read the second post, I agree not good, CAB do a wonderful job.. I
must have crossed post....
You will just have to hope the arrears are correct OP.0 -
I can only go by my experience. I have only been to cab 3 times in my life, and i assure you, I saw 3 people who spoke with a accent i had difficulty in understanding; and who seemed to be learning the job. They kept on disappearing to get advice from a supervisor (i assume).
As far as you lot helping me is concerned, I doubt it very much.
How can the reason why my claim was turned down, be of relevance to the amount of entitlement by law? (As someone seems to think).
Thank you for your 'expert advice'. I'll see if I can google some answers.
And if i;m coming across as a biatch, remember I have been through nearly 3 years of despair. Make your patronizing replies to someone who gives a damn.
Because if it happened to you, it can happen to someone else. Looking at it without facts, it is a straightforward entitlement - but as you must be aware, it isn't.
If someone came on here next week with a similar situation and we can advise. Another poster appealed because of xxx and won it *may* help them not to go through it.
Eg if it was because you didn't claim Carers (I have no idea - throwing something out there) then we can say. "unless you claimed CA there *may* be a problem - can you claim" etc
You clearly have had a hard few years - on a personal level I'd like to know what led to what should have been a straightforward entitlement being denied and if this info can help others.0 -
i could have said ' if the OP has been trying to claim IS for 2 1/2 years why does she have a year old baby when she had no means of supporting it?
yeah I saw that too. Ah well, I don't mind a little Devils Advocate at times, but I think she's gone anyway since we're of no help...lets just let it fade away

Competition wins:
2013. Three bottles of oxygen! And a family ticket to intech science centre. 2011. The Lake District Cheese Co Cow and bunny pop up play tent, cheese voucher, beach ball and cuddly toy cow and bunny and a £20 ToysRus voucher!0 -
Couldn't agree more. My sister started training as a CAB advisor and it's quite intensive for voluntary work.
Sometimes I'd like to transport people back to the 40's and 50's and make them live in that time zone for a month or 2 to give them an idea of what life could be like, without the welfare system and free access to expert advisory services and forums.0
