Whenever I go,with or without my kids, I buy the travelcard that lets you go on tube, train and bus. Easy to use, I'm not sure but I think the Oyster is a top up card more used by people who travel there regularly. Last time I went I bought 2 one-day cards when I arrived on the Wednesday, for use on the Thursday and Friday so you don't have to get tem each day separately0

A bit more information needed to give tailored advice - how long are you staying in London (and where) and how are you travelling to and from London. And apart from the daughters how many is 'we'?
And are these offers:

Going Friday until Tuesday. Getting there by train (have a family & friends railcard). 2 adults and 2 children and stopping near Tower Bridge. Thanks for the replies

OK. Assuming you stay in zones 1-2 which most tourists do.
Your rail tickets to and from London will qualify you for the 2 for 1 offers - just make sure you ask to keep the outward halves on arrival at Euston
Your 9YO travels free on most transport in London with the exception of some National Rail services
The 11YO is probably best off with a child 7 day travelcard at £14.60 - but this will need to be bought at a rail station - ie Euston - on arrival and will need a passport sized photo for a free ID card she will be given. Alternatively one day travelcards are £3.20 a day off peak, £1 extra peak. No ID needed.
The adults could do the same - theirs will be £29.20 each. Or one day ones are £7 off peak, £8.40 peak.
Alternatively they (the adults) could get the same travelcards on Oyster without the need for photos but there is a £5 refundable deposit per card. And it will have to be bought at the Underground station at Euston - AFAIK the mainline station doesn't sell them.
Or they could go for PAYG Oyster - which won't cost more than one day cards and wil be less if you only do the odd journey
In theory the 11YO could get a zip Oyster - but it takes several weeks to get and costs £10, non refundable. Stick to the paper travelcard for her.
Hope that doesn't sound too complicated
Off peak is after 0930 in the week - any time on Saturdays and Sundays and bank holidays0 -
I am going to London at Easter with my 15 year old daughter for a week.
We are getting our 7 day travel cards at our local train station (am driving up there).
The ticket office did not know they could do this until I asked them about it a couple of weeks ago. We will both need to take passport pics with us, and they can only issue it within 24 hours of dates needed. But by doing this we get the 241 and it is one less thing to do when we get there.0
