Rewaxing/oiling/polishing parquet flooring

Hi all, can anyone recommend a wax, oil or other type of polish/finish to apply to an old parquet floor?
I have taken up the carpet that was on top of it, it dates from 1948 but is in acceptable condition. I was thinking of taking off the old wax and applying a new finish as my dad advised that sanding it is likely to lift the blocks up, which are then difficult to stick down as they were originally stuck with bitumen.

I recommend Fiddes hard wax oil - great stuff IME, super hard wearing, easy to apply, a choice of finishes and it looks great (I mainly use satin.)0

Thanks for the recommendation! Would you remove the old wax using a solvent first? I don't know what it is, as it's been covered in carpet for at least 30 years.Solar install June 2022, Bath
