Using a Visa debit card at the Post Office

I have an Alliance & Leicester Visa debit card which I can use to withdraw cash at the Post Office.
When this card expires in November of this year, am I right to think I will receive a new Santander card, which I can't withdraw cash at the Post Office with? :-(
Thanks

Santander's policy is that former Alliance and Leicester customers will continue (for the time being, at least) to be able to withdraw and pay in cash with their card at Post Office branches, and this follows the account as opposed to the card.0 -
My experience of the change after I got my Santander card...

Will my new card say 'Santander' on it, even though it's an old A&L account? Thanks0

Yes it will, its now a Santander account (even if the account type is a legacy A&L account)0 -

That's not my experience - I've paid in using just my card (very recently) and there always has IIRC been a limit on withdrawals.
It shows up as as a cash withdrawal and not Link too
So something odd is going on - maybe different sorts of accounts?0 -

Is it possible one account is a former A&L account and the other is a Santander Basic Account? The Basic Account would behave like most other basic accounts at the PO I think - withdrawal through the Link system, no ability to pay in - whereas the former A&L account would behave more like an old Girobank account.0 -
yup mine did indeed start out as a girobank acc all those years ago!Is it possible one account is a former A&L account and the other is a Santander Basic Account?
