Credit Query

Hi.

I was wanting some advice regarding a credit rating/report enquiry that i had.

My wife has recently been granted an indefinite leave to remain in the UK. She has lived in the uk for almost 3 years now.
Upto now I've only got her a savings account through out this time.

I want to boost her credit rating and credit profile to an extent that she will be able to get a mortgage at some stage (probably BTL).
Having read the credit rating section on this website it suggests taking out a credit card and making some payments on that to show a history of payments.

I have applied for a couple of credit cards for my wife, but unfortunately these got rejected. I got a copy of the reports and the only things listed on that are details of the two searches carried out by the two companies involved (Sainsburys and MBNA).

I have got my wife on the electoral roll at the house we live in. The one thing i am not sure on, is what i put down for previous address as she has been in this country for less than 3 years most applications require you to put a previous address. But her pervious address would be outside the UK.

So for now it seems she can't get a credit card. Can anyone suggest anything or perhaps suggest another way of boosting credit by perhaps getting a bank account or something.

Look forward to your assitance.

Thanks

    What is your wifes nationality?

Does your wife work or have any income of her own?

Thanks for the response. Currently her nationality is bangladeshi but as i mentioned she has indefinite leave to remain.

She doesn't have a job yet but he plan is to get her one.

I dont think its possible to get a current account is it without having a job or a regular income. Would it be perhaps easier to get her a joint account in one ofthe accounts i already have. Howwould that be reflected on a credit file

Best question on this thread so far - no income to pay for credit means a poor credit score.

By applying for sh*t high interest cards,I see you applied for 2 mainstream low interest credit cards now why does your wife deserve one of these which takes years to build up a credit history to be accepted for mainstream cards.

She need to apply for 50% apr cards like vanquis.

YOu can put overseas address as previous address. I think she needs to get a current account before anybody will give her a credit card... no reason why she wouldn't get accepted for a current account.

@BugsyBrowne - Thank you for putting it so eloquently. I never said she deserved one, i was told to build up her credit profile and so applied for main stream cards.

My objective is to build her credit profile up.

I'll start with the current account although on that one i fear the no job thing might be a problem.

Agree the no job thing as you put it might be a Bit of a stumbling block.
