Phone insurance claim

Hello.
I was attacked in a nightclub three weeks ago and during the attack my phone fell from my pocket. A friend of mine found it on the floor of the nightclub later that night and returned it to me. The phones screen was completely smashed and the phone doesnt turn on. My insurance policy says I should have reported the incident to the police within 24 hours to obtain a crime reference number which I did not do. I have been waiting to claim as I didnt have the money to pay the excess on the policy. Does anyone have any experience of a similar problem? Thanks in advance

Speak to the Insurers again and ask them to review.
You should have reported the attack to the nightclub and then the Police. It is looking like your failure to do so, would invalidate the claim, because the Insurers believe that you just dropped the phone and perhaps they don't cover such accidental damage. You have included a crime within your claim event, but did not report. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
