Help with joint claim?!?!

Im current a lone parent claiming income support. Im 19 and my child is 2. Soon my partner will be moving in and we will have to make a joint claim for JSA.

Was wondering if anyone knew if our benefits would stop while the new claim is sorted and how long id be without money for?

Really need some advice thanks as worried about being able to keep on top of bills without any money coming in

From reports on here it doesn't always go smoothly (sometimes it does) but there could be a delay.

You would still get your CTC and CB etc though.

You wont be a joint claim as you have children. One person will need to be responsible for looking for work and they will make the claim, be available and actively seek employment. As you are currently on income support what benefits is your partner currently claiming?

If the OP moves in with her partner her I.S will cease, he will make a claim to JSA and add her as his partner. When he moves in she will have no condition of entitlement to I.S.
OP your claim to I.S will close the day you move in together, you will be paid up to the day before, you should be added on to his claim ready for his next payment, its straight forward.
Your local office may have some backlog but as long as he fills out the JSA3 to add you there shouldnt be to big a problem.
Remember you will have to make a new joing CTC claim, so inform HRMC

Its the TC that will take a while. Be prepared for a month or 2 without any tax credits, takes around 2-3 months to go from a single to joint claim. It took 14 weeks for me. Luckily i had saved up and sold loads just to survive. Id get saving before you do this, it may be easy on RE JSA but the CTC will take a while x
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea
