Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I didnt know it was even possible to have too much fruit lol. Maybe my mind is out of sink with what a kilo of anything looks like!

Catt- This is also doubling up as a re-stock as well. Plus using up some bits in the cupboard which in the future I'd like to get away from using if at all possible, i.e jars of sauce.

Niki- I appreciate your point regarding making meals in advance. However I think for my personal situation it would work out much better for me if I had a store of meals ready prepared, i.e a portion of shepards pie (i've got lots of ffreezable single portion containers for labelling). I always know I'm going to be home lol as I dont have much of a social life esp now.

Plus my earlier point was exactly what you'd written about freezing what you dont eat so I was a little confused with what you were highlighting there. Sorry. I maybe wasn't reading it correctly.

Maybe its just me but I find with being single I very rarely can be bothered to fully cook an entire meal for one, so I'll end up just snacking to fill the hole. Something which I really want to get away from. So I dont really see batch/bulk cooking as a waste of time even for a single person, then again it migt just be my opinion.

Thanks Kiwi hun, only spends today have been bills and my online asda shop. Helped a great deal to do it that way as I've been more definite about what I'm getting and making a full on effort to master meal planning so that will help out enormously with my debt payments.

In the end the whole thing came to £40, inc delivery. I've got all my meals covered for two weeks plus enough for reserves. Some items to re-stock my cupboards so aside from small top up (less than £5) it's very close to having covered me for 3 plus weeks.

I'm not yet a master at meal planning by any means. Again I'm an emotionally led person so will eat what I feel like rather than what was written down, so this is my first step to it. Some might not agree that it works this way, but I've got a feelin it will for me, and if not I'll try another way :)

Thanks everyone for all your advice, it was all much appreciated xx

    Hi CAFCGirl

I'm not a master either and again like you I eat what appeals so even though I do a months meal plan and shop accordingly I will decide that morning what I fancy (the family are going to eat) whether it's on the list for that day or not :rotfl:

I also found that in the beginning writing down my favourite meals and the ones we have every week helped me work out a basic plan that I could add to. I try to have one mince, one sausage/sausage meat, two chicken and one fish meal a week and the something like pizza, HM of course as well to keep the kids happy :rotfl: So one week spag bol, next shepherds pie, meatloaf....I'm sure you get the picture :rotfl:

  • kiwi88 that's like what we do.

We have a list with however many meals on it as there are days in the month and then just cross the items off as we go eating whatever appeals that day. Have to admit by the end of the month you're left with the things that haven't appealed all month. Occasionally we have things that aren't on the list but already have, like beans on toast if neither of us is feeling hungry.

I'm anticipating a "on toast" evening probs once a week if not once a fortnight.

It's taken me over a year to get this organised so who knows maybe it'll all come in waves and floods of pure organised genius!

In terms of your cottage pie/ spag bol mixes, hun you dont need those. Obviously use them up tho :)

Spag bol/ cottage pie etc get a basil plant and some dried herbs and a jar of minced garlic and maybe an oxo cube if you want, but thats all you need :)
    these will last ages

In terms of your pots, if they are sprouting, you need to find a big paper sack or something dark ( must take own advice) we have a black pillow case Im going to use today. Stash your root veg in this and put somewhere dark ( under stairs cupbaord or in a normal cupboard. They will las tlonger before sprouting and going turgid ( bendy)

I cant remember if you have a garden but if you have sprouting gardlic lets say, stick it in the ground and wait till late summer and harvest :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
