External Walls - Rendering?

I live in a mid-terrace house - it's the type where the end walls and the walls between each dwelling are made of bricks but the front and backs are not - almost like stud-walling on the inside with cladding on the outside. The terrace used to be owned by the council and the entire terrace (apart from ours - presumably because it was sold off before the others) have had the cladding covered with some kind of rendering. Some of the other terraces in my area have had the cladding covered with tiles or upvc cladding.
I want the metal cladding on mine covered in the same way as the rest of the terrace. Does anyone know what this is; is it possible to DIY or what kind of tradesman would do this type of work?
Any thoughts/ideas appreciated?
This link to Right Move shows a picture of the type of terrace (just around the corner from mine). In this picture, the houses to the left and right of the pictured house have the finish I want to achieve.

Hi 13Katrina,
I think a phone call to the local council estates dept might work, and also ask if they can recomend any contractors on their approved list. Get about three names and then ask them for quotes.0
