Boiler Flue Emissions

I want to attach a pergola of some sort onto the rear of our property covering our patio area. Unfortunately the flue from our bolier is centraly placed.

I would like to know if any heat comes out of the flue, or is it fumes? We intend on putting some sort of sunshade on the pergola, so i need to decide what would be suitable, if at all?

My logic is, with a pergola, we could leave a gap at the wall end, and cover the bottom 3/4 if that makes sense? Unlike an awning which would be attached to the wall, so there would be nowhere for the heat or fumes to dissperse.

Any thougths?

  • Yes, fumes come out of the flue which are potentially dangerous if they were to get inside the house.

There is normally a minimum specification for the space needed around the flue for the fumes to dispurse.

I suggest you will probably need to consult a CORGI registered heating technician to make sure what you plan to do is safe.

I don't actually kno what a pergola is - so I looked it up. It seems to be some sort of covered walkway - is this right?

Assuming that this is right then it seems more or less comparable to a car port in its physical construction. Why not just call Corgi on 0870 401 2200 and ask for their advice?

Thanks ormus, but the pdf locked up on page 4, i will try and view the doc again later.

For you to have a better idea, here is a picture http://www.relaxinfranceonline.com/provence/06014d.jpg but the bamboo? would cover the bottom 3/4 of the roof area, this would give room for the flue disperse any fumes i thought.

obviously a very grey area then with a bamboo cover.
the info re carports is a bit vague too. some info says its ok within certain rules and some sites/peeps say never fit a flue under a carport.
    Get some gorm.
