    If a person receives the higher rate of DLA I believe ESA becomes an automatic entitlement, although I am not sure of the small print.

    I'm afraid that this is not the case. The criteria for these benefits are different and getting one does not mean that the other is automatic.

    You may be entitled to Disability Living Allowance if you are too ill to work.

    .

    DLA has nothing whatsoever to do with being too ill to work. It's based on your care and/or mobility needs and many people working both part and full time claim it.
