Somebody wants to buy my car without seeing it!

well, thankfully with auto trader, they give out a disguised number on the advert, so no one calling has my actual number, and I won'd be giving it out to anybody.
HeadAboveWater, the story you have just told about you OH's car sale has made me feel even more nervous!0 -
 no! no! no! Not my intention at all!!!! OH changes his car every 6 months or so and never had anything like this happen before!! It's a one off!!
My point is, you're not a trader/garage and you're not offering a warranty. Car is sold as seen. Plus he won't have your number.
Do what LincolnshireYokel says and have the receipt written out and ready to go.
When I sold my car it was probably underpriced too, but I was just looking rid. I had someone from 70 miles away call and offer more than I asked for it so we would hold it til he got there!! lol
Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -
Simple rule really - be honest, tell the truth and you should be fine.
don't tell him it has got new brake pads etc if they are down to the metal. You don't need to say "the brake pads are down to the metal" just don't make it seem better than it is.
If something doesn't work, say so but as for the general condition, it is up to the buyer to find out themselves.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Assuming the second buyer will be paying cash on collection, whats to stop him changing his mind when, or if, he arrives?. You will be holding the car and waiting for him to view it. I would stick to what you are comfortable with. Having a second buyer waiting is a good incentive not to drop your price.I didn't like the sound of this at all, and insisted that I wanted people to view the car before buying it.0 -
Just bought a car unseen a couple of weeks ago, was a classified ad on ebay so not bidding. Cheap for what it was and an 07 so not a lot to be wrong with it and under 30k on the clock too. Girl selling it was the same as you, wanted to see us then accept amount once we'd seen the car. She'd been messed about by people offering an amount then not showing up and was surprised when we arrived when we said we would with the cash!

First thoughts are that if someone was going to scam you they would pick a different car than an £850 Yaris (no offence:)).
However if it is not above board they normally on first contact offer you a payment method that is totally safe for you but as the sale progresses they come up with a problem and want to change the method to one that is not so safe, so be aware if that happens.0 -
£850 quid for a 10 year old Yaris, known for it's reliability, is a decent price.
Well worth taking a punt on I imagine. Even if it's knackered someone with the right skills could probably make more than £850 stripping it for parts.
As for scams I had scammers trying to buy my £400 Volvo 940, but these were the really obvious ones wanting to export the car to Nigeria.0 -
could want it for parts what ever price you put it up for it will make more in bits just put on receipt sold as seenHouse_owner wrote: »I put my car up on autotrader this morning and within an hour had 2 people interested in it.
The first person wants to view it this evening - no problem.
The second person wanted to buy it without seeing it - he lives in a town about 100 miles from my town. I didn't like the sound of this at all, and insisted that I wanted people to view the car before buying it.
I wondered what people here think of this? - would you want to buy a car without seeing it? Do you think that this looks suspicious?0 -
Thanks everyone for your helpful advice.
I have told the guy 100 miles away that I will all him back tonight after the 1st guy has viewed it.
I have also now had a call from a lady 174 miles away who is interested and has put in an offer of £50 more than the 100 miles away guy.
I suppose that at least I can use these two offers as a negoiating tool when the guy comes this evening:)
I have also printed out a recipet showing sold as seen.
Oh no, just realised that they will have my number when I call them back, as they have both given me mobile numbers
Is there any way of stopping my number showing up on their mobile?0 -

Since you said you want rid of the car quickly, sell it to the first person who hands over the money, rather than risking no sale at all for an extra 50 quid.Oh no, just realised that they will have my number when I call them back, as they have both given me mobile numbers

Dial 141 before the number eg. 141 07123 456 7890
