DLA success - TC implications

Hiya,
Posted in disability and dosh, but figured it crossed over to here so reposted - please remove if inappropriate.
After a bit of a 'to do' with DLA, I have received a phone call to say that an award has been made - they couldn't tell me over the phone what, I will have to wait for the letter. Very relieved and my first job is to find a cleaner.
I rang my friend who helped me with the application, and she told me to inform tax credits as DLA is an automatic entitlement to the disability element. Can anyone confirm? I've had a look at the info and I meet the criteria, but it seems to suggest that I may have to undertake more paperwork if they require proof that I'm 'suitably disabled'. I'm not sure I can take much more of all that nonsense, does anyone have any experience? I won't be eligible from mid Sept anyway, as I start my Masters, so I'm not sure it's worth the stress as I have a lot to do before then and tbh, DLA was a mare to deal with.
Any input appreciated x

Yes, if you are working at least 16 hours DLA will mean you can get the dis element and if you tell HMRC within 1 month of the DLA award it can be backdated to the date your DLA is due to start.
If you have the qualifying benefit, HMRC normally accept self-certification that you pass the other test which is about disadvantage in work test. See the leaflet TC956 for the full criteria, providing you meet one of those then you will be fine.

Any level of award automatically entitles you to the disabililty element assuming you or a partner is working at least 16hrs. If you get the highest rate of care/mobility you qualify for an additional payment under tax credits.0

Phew, that doesn't sound bad! I'm working over the 16hrs needed, so I'll give them a ring - I was reluctant to do so before but it sounds like it shouldn't be too complex a process. Thanks for your help, much appreciated x0
