Well, following numerous telephone calls to various people in various benefit offices, who clearly don't speak to each other as I had to explain the entire story every single time.....
(Staff skills variable to say the least, some understanding and sympathetic, others just rather pathetic.)
As I vented my frustration at a system that can do this to someone in complete disregard to the law, one hapless soul threatened to hang up on me.
At that point I wasn't actually shouting at her or being unreasonable (imho) - but I really wanted to by then!!

Anyway - I was promised a call back from the office that should have been dealing with it to explain what was going on. Needless to say the call back never came.

I sent a letter of complaint off on Friday. I doubt it has even got to the in tray by now.

    However......news just in
Today - I received a letter from DWP. At least this one was properly addressed. As for the rest of it - complete guff.

Says they have looked again at their decision and have "changed the decision".

    That's it. Changed their decision.
    No idea what to.
Apparently I can get in touch with them if I have any questions though......That's nice of them!
I do feel like scrawling over it !!!!!!? in violent green ink, not sure it would move things forward, but I might feel a bit better....

Honestly. No wonder the system is in meltdown.
Answers on a postcard as to what they might have done with my claim now.....
I await tomorrow's post with great interest. Here's hoping they have been sensible, realised they have made a mistake and have rectified it.
    Not holding my breath though.
Thanks for all your help chaps

Hmmm quite a few people seem to report this mysterious.. 'we have changed our decision' letter yet it fails to mention the important bit.. what the hell it refers to. It could mean absolutely anything or nothing at all. I've read reports of people getting this letter even in error... they've sat back after asking for reconsideration and run out of time to make appeal thinking their reconsideration had been successful. I'd be inclined to assume nothing more will be sent and call them (death by a thousand cuts is alternative) and tell them you've received this letter and ask actually what is going on. It's so infuriating that ever increasingly people cannot get simple information or sensible information from the DWP on ESA claims.

I'd be tempted to make new complaint when the latest episode reaches some juncture of understanding and copy in MP.

"I have received a letter which does not mention the reconsideration other than to say 'We have looked at your claim again following a recent change'" - this is an apparent letter notifying that WRAG decision has been reconsidered successfully and changed to Support Group... taken from todays postings on these threads. There were no reported changes. Another thread today.. ESA apparently stopped... DWP can't shed light on matter... local authority notified claimant.
