Advice on compensation,please.

As paint tin lids should not just pop off, this seems to me that the item must have been faulty and you have a claim against the seller not just for a refund of the paint, but also for (reasonably foreseeable) consequential loss caused by the faulty item.
For example if a buy a new freezer that it breaks down soon afterwards and food is spoilt you can also claim for the value of the food.
Faulty paint tin lids cause paint spillage, which costs money to clean/repair/replace items affected by the paint spillage.

How much is second hand jacket and shopping trolley? If not considerably more than £50 you'll probably be wasting your time taking this further.Thinking critically since 1996....0

If the offer fully compensated for actual loss then OP wouldn't/shouldn't be complaining.
As I understand it, her issue is that the offer is well below the cost of her losses.
But I agree if the amount is sufficient, then there is no point in taking things further.0 -
Probably because they are assuming they should be given brand new stuff rather than the real value of their items (which are obviously 2nd hand/used).Thinking critically since 1996....0

I'd more question what these things are made of if it was impossible to get emulsion paint off of them when the issue was spotted within minutes of it happening.... would be a different story if it was a gloss or oil based paint0
