Home contents insurance including freezer

I am about to take out a contents insurance policy the cover includes cover for contents of the freezer, as it happens I have two freezers one is a chest freezer, the other is a fridge freezer, and because of my constant search for bargains they are both pretty full.
I am not sure of the value of all the contents so my question is in the event of the freezers failing how would I and the insurance company work out the value. Thank you

Assuming it just fails and isnt incinerated you'd just state the content and then could use something like Tesco's online shopping site to calculate the approximate value based on 50 burgers, 3 bags of chips etc.
If it and the content is totally destroyed then it is more an average figure and you'd use things like high supermarket bills as evidence that yours is overstocked rather than empty0 -
When our freezer failed we were told we could not claim on our insurance because we didnt have appliance or breakdown cover. that was with Castle cover. Think I'll resort to putting money under my mattress instead of paying to insurance compainies who twist you every way possible.:cool:0

If it fails due to a breakdown or wear and tear you will most likely not be covered. The freezer contents are usually covered for power cuts or accidentally knocking the power off.
Some companies will settle small claims on a good faith basis. Others may require you to keep packaging from the lost food, or them might even send someone to inspect your ruined food if it's an unusually large claim!0 -
