Aviva lost insurance no claims
I have had trouble free driving for 20 years (no accidents or claims) - so how much NCD would you imagine that I have ?
According to Aviva (who covered me for the last 2 years) - I am on only 5 years NCD !!
Is there any reason why I should not put down my FULL entitlement on any future Insurance Quotes ?
I would not be lying and as far as I am concerned - I told Aviva that I had at least 8 years last year !!
The problem must be that one companies max NCD is not the same as another.
There is a database somewhere with all accidents and claims on it - is it possible to access this to check ?

You are always asked to state the ncd you can prove.
See if aviva will give you proof.
If not, then don't claim more than your proof says, or risk a problem over this0 -
Always keep renewal notices showing no claims. Not all use the same number of years. In reality after 5 years the discount is minimal anyway and it is still the quote which matters, not the NCB applied.0

I declared 4 years for my bike insurance and got a premium. After checking the old paperwork I realised I only had 3 years, it cost me an extra £2.20. Don't think for a minute your premium is based on NCD, the difference can be negligable, it's just a way to get extra insurance off us, as everyone wants to pay to protect it.0

Aviva adverts stated 5+ years ncd was necessary to be insured with them, but after a year they are only giving 5 years ncd. Surely this would be a minimum of six years.
My second lowest quote last year needed my 14 years provable ncb. I now keep copies of my ncb.0 -
I have been insured with Aviva for 2 years now, when I first changed I noticed that they only recognised 5 years NCB, I had 11 at that point so double checked that when I changed I'd be able to state 12 years at my next renewal. I was told yes, but i still kept a copy of my NCB showing 11 prior to me joining them, I figure that they would at the very least confirm that I hadn't made a claim from my insurance with them and that would be proof.
On the up side I didn't have to pay more to protect my NCB as even if I had made a claim I would still have more than 5 years if they deducted 3 years.0 -

Hi 21Twinkle,
Insurers use different levels of NCD. With us, the maximun is noted as 5+ years as that gives you the maximum discount applicable for NCD. Anything over this is surplus.
If you can please email me the following information, I can check what we had on file when you joined us and issue revised proof if needed:- Your full name
- Date date of birth
- Address including postcode
- Policy number
I look forward to receiving your email.
Kind regards,

The problem is, if you join Aviva with 20 years ncb, when you leave you will only have 5 years, regardless of claims. Aviva may only give a maximum discount of 5 years, others may give more. As the maximum discount you recognize is 5 years what harm is there in giving more?.Insurers use different levels of NCD. No claims bonus is earned by and valuable to drivers. What right do you have to remove it?0 -
Well, you would have a twenty ncb letter from before Aviva, and then your entire time at Aviva you made no claim, I think you'll find an insurance company will accept you have 20 + "time at aviva" no claims. All of mine have!0

For interest I emailed Aviva this morning at social@aviva.co.uk as I was in the same position with this 5 years NCD. They replied quickly and acknowledged that my 14 years NCD when I joined would be added to the 2 years I had with them. Proof indicating 16 years NCD would be sent out to me after my policy had ended.
Thanks to all on this thread for the assistance!

You will have whatever you had when you joined them, plus however long you have been with them claim free. You dont lose anything just by going with them.
What actually happens is that the max they recognise is 5 years, and so your policy will only say 5 years, but you dont loose any becuase of this, you just need to ask them for a letter stating what you had when you joined them, and how many claim free years you have been with them.
I know this is correct becuase I was with them last year, my renewal just said 5 years, when I had 11 when I joined them.
A simple phone call and a week after my policy ended a letter landed on the doormat stating I had been with them for 1 full claim free year and had 11 years when I joined them.
My new insurance co had no problem at all accepting this as 12 years NCB proof.0
