Excel Parking Ticket & Naive Girlfriend

Hi All.

My girlfriend picked up a parking ticket in a hotel car park in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago.

It was pay and display, and she bought a ticket but then put an old one in the windscreen by mistake (she has had a few meetings there recently).

Sure enough she received a parking ticket from the good old boys at Excel.

She decided to appeal rather than ignore it, but was stupid enough to tell them that she hadn't displayed the ticket, rather than just sending a copy of the ticket and telling them where to go.

They have rejected her appeal despite her clearly demonstrating she had paid for a ticket.

So my question really is what to do next?

Tell them it won't be paid and if they try and take legal action, defend it?

Pay it?

Ignore them completely?

Something else?

Thanks in advance!

  • Always ignore them. You owe them nothing, so let them waste their money sending toilet paper through the post.

Don't waste any more time or worry on on these jokers - Just Ignore them from now on and check the forum sticky to see the letters they are likely to send you.

    Thanks both.

Have just established it wasn't actually the hotel car park, but a public car park next to the hotel.

Assuming this doesn't change anything, just ignore the scumbags?

    Thanks

  • As long as it's not Council, no difference

Not council as far as I know - surely Council would deal with it directly if it was, rather than Excel?

Yes - Who exactly does it say to pay to and what legislation is cited on the ticket?

It's definitely not council so that makes life nice and easy.

Will ignore them forever, then if they are stupid enough to try and take her to court, will ask them to demonstrate their losses seeing as she has proved she paid for a ticket.

Haven't seen the ticket, need to get all the paperwork from her - at the moment I've only been subjected to her stressing about it unnecessarily, I might send her a "penalty charge" for the grief it's now causing me.

Don't get stressed, it's just like ignoring phishing emails and there's no harm done. If she'd appealed and said 'here's my P&D ticket, now clear off' Excel would STILL have rejected it, because there is no appeal. You'd still be in the same position now, you are about to get a few months worth of junk mail that's all.

Typical thoughts that people have in error, about these fake PCNs:

They think it's a real parking fine = WRONG.

They think because the DVLA release the registered keeper's data that the PPC must have some sort of authority = WRONG.

They think that because major retailers like Supermarkets use these firms that it 'can't be a scam' = WRONG.

They think that a debt collector can/will call round = WRONG.

They believe the empty threats in the 'debt collector' letters = WRONG.

They think that it may affect their credit rating = WRONG.

Just play snap with the letters, it's EASY. I am an ordinary wife and Mum with a responsible job and clean credit record and I have ignored 2 fake PCNs. I would very happily collect more and laughed when I got both of mine. :)

Show your gf the sticky thread second from the top of the parking forum, called 'PPC letter chains'. Watch the Watchdog clip linked on there and read the other links at the top. Check out the letter-chain pics so you both know what to expect = MORE LETTERS!

It's only junk mail, nothing more. No more bothersome than deleting a series of phishing emails, honestly.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

its a FAKE ticket,,just read the stickies on what letters to expect,, e.g roxburghe and graham white,,they make great loo paper if you run short,,ignore 100% as its a SCAM,not genuine/con/fiddle/impersanation of the real thing which is called a PENALTY charge notice,,you dont have that, worry not.
