London underground
I will be going to lords cricket ground on sunday for the cricket match between England & south Africa. I have never been to lords so was wondering where is the best place to park ànd then hop on the tube? Or if there is any suitable parking around the ground? I've only been on the tube once which was very long time ago as I do not live in London. On tips on purchasing tube ticket etc thank you Ps I have also submitted this thread on another section of mse. hope I ain't breaking any rules etc.

Where are you travelling in from?0

Yeah it depends where you are travelling from. We normally park in car park close to Richmond station and then get a tube in, but this is no good if you are coming from the other direction!0

If you are coming from the North then you can park free near either Stanmore or Canons Park stations. They are convenient both for J4 of the M1 and also on the Jubilee line direct to St Johns Wood0

Hi, Will be travelling from the midlands, will either take the M40 or M1???0

Did some comparisons with travelling down to London by coach, car and train.
car = fuel would have cost me £40 to and from stanmore plus any extra for rail ticket to st johns wood
plus I took in the factor that im inexperienced in travelling by tube so could have got lost etc??? lol
train = looked at chilton, virgin and midlands and they came up high
coach = megabus was out of the question even though there prices are cheap, there are no suitable parking near the departure/collection point plus reviews on the service they provide is mix
1 adult & 1 child will cost me around £25 with national express
bham to park lane/marble arch. :j
will walk the remaining distance to the home of cricket

Yeah I wouldn't walk it especially with a child, 1.5 miles in a very busy part of London. Better off hopping on a bus or tube. the 113 towards Edgware goes from Marble Arch to Lords Cricket Ground. Bus tickets £2.30 for everyone over 11, available at ticket machines at bus stop, unless you have an Oyster card and it'll cost £1.300 -

You're afraid of getting lost on the tube between Stanmore and St Johns Wood? When there is only one tube line at Stanmore, so you can't get on the wrong train? And it's the last station on the line, so you can't get on a train going the wrong way? And it goes directly to St Johns Wood, so all you have to do is to get off when the sign on the platform says "St Johns Wood"?
And yet you are happy to walk from Marble Arch to Lords? Or to tackle the bus, which IMHO is potentially much more confusing than the tube?
There is nothing intrinsically wrong with your plan to go by National Express and personally I would think nothing of walking from Marble Arch to Lords (or walking from Marble Arch to Bond Street and getting on the Jubilee Line), but given your evident timidity I wonder if you have thought this through.Je suis Charlie.0 -
I lived in London for 21 years and would not walk the route your planning for fear of getting lost (plus it's a reasonable distance - particularly on the hot days we've been having).
Just jump the tube, it's very difficult to get lost and if you do there are staff to help.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
