Sold car 7/2005 bill for service arrives 2/2007 is this on?

I wonder if anybody can give me some advice? Briefly story is: Had car serviced/mot'd by local garage, approx late 2004/early 2005. Had bonnet resprayed mid 2005 part exchd car July 2005. Sold business/home Nov 2005 & moved and asked garage for all bills for car so could claim vat and close business accounts. Couple of bills arrived spring 2006, which we paid. Thought that was it. February 2007 received huge bill approx £863 for service & mot + one for respray another £266, no dates of work done just invoice date. We honestly thought we'd paid everything we owed and now this. Having not owned the car for over 18 months I was gutted to get these bills. Can the garage do this? Is there a time limit to ask somebody to pay for a service? Any input would be very gratefully received.

You can ask the garage for the job sheets relating to these invoices and check the dates when they were done. Also check your own paper work to see if they have already billed you for this work in the past.

I wouldn't be paying for these bills personally, I'd fight them all the way to the courts! As suggested, check dates and previous invoices.

This is unacceptable business practice. If you do have to pay it, offer to do so over five years with no interest.
