Is Rightmove the only source on the web?

Hi all,

We're looking to upsize, and our house has been on the market for a few months but things seem very slow. We are looking around to make sure we know what we want and what we're prepared to compromise on.

We look at Rightmove, Zoopla, Prime Location, Findaproperty, local news website (homes bit) etc etc. as well as picking up the free property mags etc., but the houses all seem to be the same as what is on Rightmove. I'm wondering if we're wasting time checking them all, or if Rightmove is just the definitive source. It would save time but if some properties are advertised online in some places but not Rightmove then we'll continue to search them all.

Many thanks in advance x

I only use right move, I don't use anything else because I believe 95% of people at least use right move.

I too looked at other sites a while ago but I didn't find anything that wasn't on right move. Other than the odd wreck.

Rightmove is up there at the moment but many estate agents I know have stopped their subscription as they keep on putting the price up .There were portals before Rightmove and there will be ones after , Zoopla is gaining market share mainly through the merger with digital media .Things come ang go Yahoo/google ,Compuserve/AOL ,Money Supermarket.com and that other one that had Money in the title 8-) Oooops maybe a few years early with the last one !

Some agents don't use Rightmove, although I think they are in the minority. There's one in particular in my area. As long as all your local agents use it, then you should see everything.
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
  • We nearly missed the house we're buying because it wasn't on Rightmove. It was only when the vendors signed up with a second estate agent that did use Rightmove that we saw it. I'm not sure why anyone would try to sell their house through an agent that didn't use Rightmove these days.

Is it the only source? No.

It may well be the source of choice for many agents and members of the public in E&W, but there are areas, especially in Scotland, where it has only a small number of the available properties.

Quite a few local agents to me use Vebra.com. They upload the properties to there and they're embedded within their own websites. Vebra uploads to Rightmove but due to update timings it can be nearly 2 days between being on Vebra and being on Rightmove, in which time you might've missed out on the ideal property, albeit less likely in the current climate.
