Idea for paying abroad

I just want to say thank you firstly, for this fantastic website and forum, and the immense wealth of knowledge that everyone has contributed. It's about time I wrote here, instead of just reading :)

I am going to France soon, for at least a month, so I am applying for the clarity card (Halifax). I was just reminded of my current Halifax CC, it has around +£36 on it, because the final direct-debit took more than it should. Now I am thinking, is it possible to load the clarity with enough money to last the trip, and never use the CC's balance and hence save even more? :A

I feel this is too easy and I am missing something...

Nope, it's against the T&Cs of the card (and most credit cards) and they could take it off you if you try to do it deliberately.
  • Ahh OK. I knew there would be a caveat and that someone on here might know. Thank you for the quick response.

It has also been reported, by peoople who have pre-loaded their card, that their account has been frozen (pre-loading can be flagged as 'suspicious activity) leaving them abroad with no usable card and their funds frozen and inaccessible.
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I have a clarity card and made a £1600 payment to it instead of my normal card which has been sitting there for at least a couple of months with no problems.
