    Have a look on the outside of your house & depending on the age of the house you may see a line along the mortar about 2 or 3 courses up from the ground level. It might be a darkish colour, might be easy to see might not.
    It may also be along the line of mortar above any air bricks.

    My house was built in the 1930s. I had a damp proof course put in when I moved in 18 years ago. I am wondering whether it has been bridged in some way or whether I have penetrating damp. The wall/floor that are damp are in the corner of a room and the wall outside does get battered by the wind and rain - it's in a corner and we only have bungalows behind us and they're not very close, so it is very exposed.

    The offending wall has been repointed recently and I was hoping that would finally solve the problem. However, I have noticed that after it's been raining and the flagstones have started to dry out, there is a damp line on the floor where it meets the wall - anyone have any idea what could mean?
