Sound proofing ceiling.

Hello,
I've just bought a downstairs flat with an annoyingly noisey upstairs neighbour. I'm considering sound proofing the bedroom ceiling. Does anybody have a rough of idea of the costs involved? Or could recommend a cheap way of doing it?

Welcome to the club :-(
I've looked at this in great depth for the past 3 years, but never bitten the bullet and done anything about it. I'm literally on the verge of giving it a go in one of the rooms to see what difference it will make.
Soundproofing and cheap don't really come into the same sentence, i'm afraid. I priced up what should be a reasonable solution for us, for a 4m x 2.8m room with me DIY fitting it at around £500 for materials.
The best solution for you will depend on the construction of your flat, how much ceiling height you have to play with, how much mess you are willing to put up with (ie remove existing ceiling, VERY messy!)
For starters, a few questions for you:
a) Do you suffer from airborne or impact noise? Airborne = TV and talking etc, impact is footsteps etc.
b) Do you know how your ceiling / the floor above is constructed? Wooden or concrete?0
