Some good news from natwest oveerdraft charges, Happy days

I had two bank accounts with Natwest, a regular current account and a savings account, I usually used my savings account (after getting them confused) as my current account.
Anyway, after moving home due to losing my job and not telling the bank, my current account went over by £40 ( totaly forgot about the D.D i had setup.) The account went into arrears by about naerly £900 before natwest put a hold on my savings account.
When i had realised what happend i rang natwest, expecting a huge bill. But the lovley lady on the other end who was polite and well mannered. I told her the predicament and she said to me, that she was willing to accept an offer of £100 ( which was basically the overdraft). If i paid that my account would be no longer in arrears and the rest would be written off. Dubious i asked for it in writing, and paid the amount. Good news, no longer overdrawn, and the remainder of the 900 has been cleared!
BUT WAIT IT GETS BETTER
I was advised that i should close my current account if i no longer used it, and just use the savings account, which i did. But then, 3 months later when i tried to set up a DD they wouldn't honour it on my saivings account, meaning the company i wanted to use the DD for were about to charge me fee's ( they didn't)
I rang up natwest, told them it was their fault, and wanted to put in a complaint. At the complaints department, cut a long story short, they paid for 3 months of my gym membership and £20 as a gesture of goodwill.
Just putting it out there as a happy story.

Of course they wouldn't honour it, you can't have DDs on a savings account. I'm surprised they gave you so much back as they were not in the wrong.0

I completely agree, i'm not knocking it, im just saying it's a happy story. I think they gave me it back for the simple fact, it was on their advice i closed my current account, and that was my argument. My whole point of this thread is, there are some happy endings sometimes. Im surprised they wrote of a 800 + overdraft.0 -
I think shatwest are so used to handing out redress and goodwill payments that they are on autopilot. good result though!0
